Community College Summer Leadership Academy may 2014

Again a very interesting day in Washington today, as Higher Education seemed to be primarily discussed in terms of affordability, costreduction etcetera.
And of course, these are issues that need to be addressed. I get that. Reading back my notes of today though, i guess i've also written down some lines that were NOT mentioned today, in capitals. Lines like: "unleashing potential", "where's the dream", "offering chances for development", "loving education", "to be of value", "guidance and mentoring", and even... quoting Stenden: making it a better world....

How to measure ROI of education? Do i WANT to measure the return on investment of education? What would be the indicators? How to measure the "result" of education? And... Do we want to regulate and formulate "targets" for education? What would be relevant targets? Education is not a business, its a calling, a passion. A weird or naive dream of few people that actually love to help students reach their full potential. Caring souls that are driven by the wish to open up new opportunities for their students, introducing them to new insights, welcoming them to new territory to discover, learning together how to be a better person for themselves and their surroundings....and...some of these educators even like to walk that new and exciting road together with their students...

Although i tend to rather follow my "gut instinct" i"ll finish my blog for today with these results of actual research that at least... Warmed my heart. Now lets try and warm up the hearts of our policymakers and investors in education and... While were at it.... Society! #dreambig
