Leap of Faith!
How about a leap of faith?
Suppose you think that students, learners in the Higher Education system can benefit in a big way from the chance to learn and grow. Not only for a degree, but to be(come) a better professional, a beautiful human being, to become an individual who can even "make the difference" in other people' s lives... unleashing potential in themselves and others. ...
Suppose that is what you think....
To maintain a high standard of effective education, carried out by passionate people, adapting to a fast-changing world, or even... being proactive and thinking of "what comes next" to be fully prepared? Suppose you know that institutions like we have in our Higher Education landscape are able to offer the right culture and inspiring educational environment for everyone who wants to learn or develop. What if you WANT to be the beehive or facilitate an environment for groups of passionate people. Groups in all their diversity, who have a hunger to be coached, challenged and inspired, to co-operate, to learn from each other, to co-create, to connect, to grow...
IF you believe in all of the above, something BIG might be necessary to "speed things up". As the world around us and the people living in it are changing rapidly we can't just "make things better". We can't just look back to what we did and learned. We sometimes need to take a leap of faith. We need to go where we don't really know what will happen as... it is NEW. It might not be about "best practice" but about "new practice". We need the imaginative dreamers, the painters, the musicians, the intuitive people....we need to be able to "paint the picture", to write all sorts of scenarios and embrace this process as a process of growth. This image of a possible future will rarely be a calculated, controlled and detailed plan. It often will not be possible to be without the risk of failure. It will always be with the chance of success.
We need to combine all the diverse qualities we have in our students, staff and friends and add to the qualities we don't have... and we maybe even think we don' t need to add anything. Besides all that, we need to dare to try and fail. We need to really guard our core values and reflect on what we are good at, where our passion lies and then ....dare to add the "new".
We need the "hungry" people who know that it is THERE, and those who are unafraid and eager to get to know the unfamiliar. To make it all even more beautiful, more effective, of higher quality and.... fun! We need this hungry and imaginative attitude to be able to make a difference, touch hearts of students and faculty... This, at least to me, is the "hunger" or passion that empowers. I believe it is what makes people move, create, (re)new.
Have a great day and ... be hungry and imaginative!
